Chapter I
The project was born from a state of enforced immobility. After receiving a double rejection for a Schengen Visa—despite a scholarship to the International Summer Academy of Fine Arts in Salzburg—I was forced to confront the "power politics" of my passport. This denial was not merely a bureaucratic hurdle; it was a profound restriction on my autonomy as an artist. In response, I turned my lens toward Darjeeling, not to document it as it was, but to subvert my reality. I began the act of re-imagining the landscape of my home as the Salzburg of my dreams.

Taking a cue from René Descartes’ 'Cogito, ergo sum', I titled this phase "I Think, Therefore I Disappear." If the physical world, governed by immigration laws and geopolitical boundaries, refused me entry, I would use the "mere act of thinking" to exit that world entirely. By photographing the misty, dreamy silence and liminality of Darjeeling, I performed a deliberate act of disappearing.

This was a "fabricated catharsis." In this dreamy landscape, I could shed the identity of the rejected applicant and dissolve into a visual synthesis of two places. The images became a safehouse—a psychological hideout where the limitations of my passport were rendered irrelevant by the boundlessness of my imagination.
