Barir Bie / বাড়ির বিয়ে  is an ethnographic visual experience which addresses the cultural and social dimensions of wedding, family and the metaphor of colour.

Someone said to me long back that home is where people remember you. For me photographic practice probably is the only way to travel the blurred lines of remembrance. With time passing by and the contexts everchanging the experience of the film will get deeper. Though the wedding in its essence is a happy gathering, but underneath there is a story of loss. May be a loss of ownership. In India, and particularly in Bengal, a wedding symbolizes more than the union of two individuals; it is a communal promise, a binding within shared time and space. From self towards being communal is a strange feeling. The film visualises the self in grey monochromes but the communal in colour. The bride is an ontological shift in the narrative. A new beginning.

Rituals are soft powers for making the self more communal. As a thinker, I am constantly enquiring the system that I am a part, knowing clearly though that in any ways the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

The lived experience as a visual document is left here for Bhattacharjee, Paul, and all the relatives I’ve seldom connected with over the past few years. Through this, I explore the dichotomy of memory, family, and the shared emotional landscape of my brother's wedding, ultimately leaving space for reflection on the ways we connect and commune with others.
