the world often reveals its  secrets when we stop to look at the "refracted" edges of reality. my project, born from a prism-shaped glass found in the Ganga’s riverbed during the pandemic, has evolved into a deeper exploration of hidjhotep—a conceptual framework that views the artist not as a creator of objects, but as a conduit for the "breath of the earth." it is about finding the sacred in the discarded and recognizing that every fragment of glass or thread of fabric is a dot in an infinite, interconnected web.

i have exhibited this work at the india art fair 2026 as part of a special collaboration between the chennai photo biennale (cpb) foundation and wwf-india. under the theme "a dialogue with nature," this initiative opens urgent conversations on ecology and sustainable atmospheres. my project adds to this dialogue by blending my refracted visuals with the narratives of indigenous textiles documented alongside researcher sophie. together, we move beyond the lens to witness the seamless interplay of light, culture, and storytelling.

in the spirit of hidjhotep, the process was organic—devoid of scripts or mood boards—allowing the environment to dictate the way forward. by reimagining our relationship with the natural world through these "refracted" perspectives, the work challenges us to see nature not as a backdrop, but as a living participant in our collective history.

to support the ongoing conservation efforts of wwf-india and the educational initiatives of the cpb foundation, limited-edition prints from this project are available through the chennai photo biennale. each print serves as a reminder of our shared responsibility toward a living planet.
